Anglican Primate Suggests Part-Time Legislature To Reduce Cost Of Governance.

The Primate of the Anglican Church of Nigeria, Arch-Bishop Nicholas Okoh, has called for the adoption of a part-time legislature as a measure to reduce the cost of governance in Nigeria.

This according to him will pave way for more developmental projects in Nigeria.
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, the clergyman lamented the alleged huge waste incurred in carrying out government activities.
Arch-Bishop Okoh recommended the part-time sitting for assembly members and also a slash in the remunerations of those in government.
The Primate maintained that “to reduce the cost of governance requires more than reducing salaries.
“I think it requires a structural adjustment; that is to say, should the people in parliament be there on permanent basis or on part time basis. If they are there on part time basis, they earn allowances.
“But as it is now, they are employed in the business of law making”.
Arch-Bishop Okoh insisted that “the country has to choose, if really we want to reduce the cost of governance”.
Reducing salary is not going to be much because the salary itself, is not much. what comes out of it after reduction is not going to be much, he maintained.
He, however, stressed that “if we take a more serious approach on what has been done in the past, let those who are members of parliament do so on part time basis, then, it becomes possible to have the reduction of expenses being made on the law makers”.

CMS ANNIVERSARY: BISHOP ORJI ADMONISHES CHRISTIANS TO EVANGELIZE THE WOR...

Every member of our Diocese is a missionary in North America because God has called us to salvation and sent us to proclaim his word. This is urgent partly because our culture is no longer Christian, in fact it is openly hostile to the Christian Faith. Our goal is to tell the good news of the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus to our pagan relatives, friends, colleagues and society with gentleness and respect so that they might repent of sin, believe in Christ and be sav ed. That is the mission of our Diocese. This entails sacrifice and shame and suffering. The CMS missionaries suffered and many died to give the gospel to Africa. Let us be willing to suffer to give this gospel to our nations again. We are not here to spread our version or your version of Anglicanism as wonderful as you may think it is. Rather we are here to spread the gospel primarily and hopefully in the process teach a godly expression of Anglicanism. Since we are Anglican missionaries sent by God to evangeliz...
