Church leaders urge reduction in cost of governance

ARCHBISHOP of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) and Bishop, Lagos Mainland, Most Rev. Adebayo Dada Akinde has called on the incoming government led by General Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that the cost of governance is reduced at all levels.  

The Archbishop, who spoke to journalists shortly after his Easter message on Sunday, noted that the cost of governance is becoming ridiculous in a developing country like Nigeria.While calling on political office holders to make sacrifices for the coming generations, Archbishop Akinde warned that on no account should they incur debt for Nigerians yet unborn.

He also reminded politicians to bear in mind that the country is greater than any one and, as such, the unity cannot be compromised on a platter of gold.

“There must be love for one another. The unity of this country cannot and should not be compromised. So, all those that are seeking to divide Nigeria for their own interests should desist, especially as Nigerians go to the polls this Saturday to elect state governors. God is set to do great things and no one should stop Him,” he said.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Executive Board of God’s Kingdom Society (GKS), Brother Godwin Ifeacho and the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, His Grace Alfred Adewale Martins have enjoined
Nigerians to pray for the success of the governorship and state House of Assembly elections.
