Vice Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Right Reverend (Professor) Dapo Asaju, has stated that rebuilding Nigeria must pervade all sectors of the polity. He made the submission in a lecture delivered at the 30th anniversary of Osun Anglican Diocese, entitled The Role of the Church in Nation Building. Lamenting the attitude of youths towards politics, and urging them to take a cue from the examples of visionary leaders such as Chief Obafemi Awolowo, he stated that the country was living on past glories. He called for all hands to be on deck to ensure that the country achieved its full potential in terms of positive development. Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, The Right Reverend Abel Oluyemi Ajibodu, has restated the role of clerics in public governance, noting that they had a duty to act as watchdogs. He stated while delivering the bishop’s charge to the house of clergy and house of laity, at the second session of the second synod, at The Cathedral of St. Peter, Ile-Oluji, on Friday, with the theme, Thy Kingdom Come. The Right Reverend Rufus Ajileye Adepoju has been enthroned as the new Bishop of Ekiti West Diocese of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion). At a service in the Cathedral Church of Christ, Ijero-Ekiti, headquarters of Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti State, the new bishop was installed by the Archbishop of Ondo Province, the Most Reverend George Latunji Lasebikan, who is also serving as the Dean of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion). In a sermon at the service, Bishop Adepoju said the country would surmount all the challenges facing it, if Nigerians put their trust in God. The Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) and the entire Church received with delight, relief and optimism the news of the release of 21 of the Chibok girls that we had long been praying for in the last two years.  This was particularly heartening at a time when hope was almost fading about whether these girls would return again.  And while the release of these 21 girls is heartwarming, one hopes that it is an indication that the rest will be released in due course at which time the joy of the entire nation can be full. PRESIDENT of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC) and candidate of the Christian Council of Nigeria, CCN, Rev. Samson Olasupo Adeniyi Ayokunle, Tuesday emerged the new president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). Ayokunle defeated Elder Joseph Otubu of the Motailatu Church Cherubim and Seraphim Movement (MCCSW) who represented the Organisation of African Instituted Churches, OAIC, with 57 votes to 28 The outgoing president of the body, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, announced the result of the election at about 2:30 p.m. to a rousing applause of National Executive Council delegates from different parts of the country who had converged at the National Christian Centre in Central Business Centre of Abuja. By the CAN constitution, Prof. Joseph Otubu who emerged runners-up in the elections automatically becomes the Vice President of the Association for the next three years of the soon to be sworn in administration. I received a message from our Primate in Nigeria, who is currently the Chairman of GAFCON today about a partnership that is in the Western news. That there is a three way Diocesan partnership between the Diocese of Liverpool, England, the Diocese of Akure, Nigeria and the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia in the United States. Also, that recently, the Diocese of Liverpool made the assisting Bishop of Virginia, Susan Goff, an assisting Bishop in Liverpool. Susan Goff is in favour of blessing same sex unions and this has been a part of the litigation against the orthodox in Virginia.  Therefore, in view of the above and being aware of the fact that Nigeria does not support same sex marriage, we in Akure Diocese cannot have any link with Liverpool Diocese. The Archbishop of Lokoja Ecclesiastical Province and Bishop of Lokoja Anglican diocese, the Most Rev. Emmanuel Egbunu has described the resurrection of Jesus Christ as the affirmation of Heaven to the price paid on the cross.  He gave this description during the presentation of his Bishop’s charge delivered to the first session of the eighth synod, which was held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Felele, Lokoja. The Bishop said that the resurrection brought the power for the proclamation of the gospel message and the power to triumph over death, explaining that it was after Jesus’ resurrection that His disciples received the charge to proclaim the gospel and victory over death. According to the Cleric, death is no longer to be dreaded by believers, because for them it has become a journey to a better place.

A new chairman of the Primates’ Council of the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON) has emerged. He is the Most Rev. Nicholas D. Okoh, Primate of the Anglican Church of All Nigeria. He takes over from the Most Revd. Eliud Wabukala, the Primate of the Church of Kenya.  He is joined in leadership by the new vice-chair, the Most Rev. Stanley Ntagali, Primate of the Anglican Church of Uganda. Archbishops Okoh and Ntagali have been deeply committed to the GAFCON movement since its founding, and are well prepared to lead.

We the Primates of the Global Anglican Future Conference met in Nairobi, Kenya from April 18-21, 2016. We give thanks for the gracious hospitality of the Anglican Church of Kenya, their Primate, the Most Rev. Eliud Wabukala, and All Saints Cathedral Diocese. As the location for GAFCON 2013, All Saints holds a special place in our history and in our hearts, and we have been encouraged to be here again. We began our meeting with prayer and a Bible study that focused on Mark 2:1-12. In this passage, the Scriptures retell the story of a man who could not walk, but was assisted by friends who helped bring him to Jesus. Unable to get their friend through the front door, they loved him enough to find another way. The Diocesan Bishop, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Diocese of Egba, Ogun State, Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Adekunle, has described as shameful the attempt by the Senate to amend the Code of Conduct Tribunal Act. He said this in Abeokuta during a media briefing on the 2016 diocesan synod of the church which began on Friday with the theme, “The Beatitudes.” Bishop Adekunle said that events in the Senate in the past few weeks informed the need for Nigerians to be vigilant as it seemed that some of the lawmakers were in the legislature for their selfish interests and not to make life better for the people. He said, “It is sad that many of our lawmakers in the National Assembly, most especially the Senate, are there for selfish interests. “The recent happening in the Senate is shameful. I think Nigerians should be courageous enough to recall any of their representatives who is not representing them well — either in the Senate or in the House of Representatives.

The Diocesan Bishop of Lagos, Rev. Adebola Ademowo, says proliferation of churches with attendant spread of false doctrines has become a major source of concern to the Christian faith. As opposed to the virtues handed down by Christ, Ademowo lamented that homosexuality, ‘prosperity gospel,’ teenage pregnancies, high rate of divorce, ‘political correctness’ and corruption had become the order of the day among Christians. The Dean Emeritus of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, therefore, said there was a need for well-meaning individuals and people with high moral standards to rise up “and swim against these tides of unwholesomeness.”

The Federal Ministry of Education’s move to reduce the workload of primary and junior secondary pupils from 20 to a maximum of ten subjects under the nine-year basic educational curriculum was welcomed in most quarters as it would align our system with international paradigms. However, under this scheme which was developed by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), Christian and Islamic Religious Studies, which are separately taught, will now be merged under a compulsory subject known as Religion and National Values (RNV). Other subjects brought under the RNV include Civic Education, Social Studies, and Security Education

The House of Bishops of the Anglican Church of Tanzania has voted to rejoin the GAFCON movement and to authorize their primate to attend his week’s meeting of the GAFCON primates’ council in Nairobi. Meeting in Dodoma on 12-13 April 2016 the House of Bishops gave their blessing to the shift in policy initiated by Archbishop Jacob Chimeledya (pictured) that began at the January meeting of primates in Canterbury. In 2013 Bishop Chimeledya defeated Archbishop Valentino Mokiwa -- one of the founding GAFCON primates -- for election as archbishop and primate of Tanzania. 

People of God, it is another Good Friday, the Historic Friday that brought Freedom and Salvation to Mankind.  We appreciate the Almighty God for the special grace upon us as a Nation and His love over each and every one of us.  On this day Christians commemorate the passion, or suffering and death on the cross of the Lord, Jesus Christ.  This message can be tagged “The Ultimate Sacrifice”.   Crucifixion was not only one of the most disgraceful forms of death; it was one of the most dreaded methods of execution in the ancient world.  Christ’s death provided the perfect atoning sacrifice for the Sins of all mankind hence the crucifix is the symbols of Christianity.     WHY DID JESUS HAVE TO DIE?
